What You Can Do to Celebrate Earth Day

Earth Day is a day in which we all reflect on the earth’s extreme fragility, and what we can do to combat, or at least slow, the effects of climate change.

The Amazon forest, the Great Barrier Reef, the Arctic ice. These are just a few of the well-known ecosystems which are changing in real-time before our very eyes. Unfortunately, human impact is not only limited to these three ecosystems: every ecosystem around the planet is changing and having an effect on our world.
Earth Day is a day in which we take a look at our ways and make changes in order to decrease our carbon footprint. But it should not be limited to just one day; if we truly want to make the world a better place for our grandchildren, we have to go above and beyond the call of duty. Here are a few things you can do to help the planet, and while you’re at it, your wallet, too.

Walk or Bike

Cars burn fossil fuels which release dangerous greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. Instead of taking the car, why don’t you bike or walk to your destination? This not only gets your heart pumping, you also save on gas and reduce your greenhouse gas emissions.

Buy a Filter

Someone once bottled water up and tricked Americans into thinking this water is the only way of drinking clean water. Americans bought $13 billion worth of water bottles in just one year (the year being 2015)! Some of that water bottle plastic does end up being reused, but a lot of it ends up in the ocean and ends up in the stomach of an innocent sea turtle. Buying a filter and filtering tap water gives you clean drinking water and most filters can be recycled to be used as filters again.
